Eating here was both a requirement on my vacation and also a very big deal. If you've never heard about Hot Doug's then you probably won't care how delicious it is or that people wait in line for hours to eat here.

So we waited in line for about an hour in a freakishly cold May Chicago morning for lunch. I was really excited to make it here, we passed Kuma's Corner which is on the next trip to Chicago for sure. Once inside we ordered our food from the eponymous Doug himself. He could not have been a nicer man. You can tell when someone is just being nice because they have to or when someone is nice because they're just a nice person. That's Doug. We placed a rather large order and he helped us make selections accordingly.
Once finding a place to sit we waited on our food which came pretty quickly.
Here you see some pretty delicious duck fat fries. Really. Delicious. Also on the left you have a Portuguese linguica sausage with onion and black garlic cheese. This was tasty. That cheese was pure magic.
On the right you have Bacon Jalapeno duck sausage with goat cheese and blood orange mayo. If you're a regular reader, you know how I feel about goat cheese. It's my food kryptonite. The mayo was bursting with flavor and the sausage was perfectly complimented. It tasted exactly how it sounds. Delicious. I remember more about that hot dog that my first kiss.

Here on the left you have the bacon cheeseburger dog with caramelized onion and I can't quite remember the sauce but it was pretty delicious, but not my favorite. And on the right you have the Foie Gras and Sauternes Duck Sausage with Truffle Aioli, Foie Gras Mousse and Fleur de Sel. I personally did not care for it but Ann loved it.

If I am able to go to Chicago more, I'd love to stop into Hot Doug's on a semi-regular basis (time permitting). Delicious food by some of the nicest people you will meet.
