Upon the suggestion of Jeff we went to Matsuya which is near Ann's house.
Upon entering you can see that for a strip mall restaurant there is a very nice Japanese decor in the floor tables in the back, the front tables look like a diner. There was the distinct "aroma" that accompanies a lot of sushi restaurants. The smell of pickled seafood. Not undesirable for some.
Pat arrived late and had the beef teryaki which he enjoyed. Nice flavor and the beef was cooked nicely. On the side you can see a mix of sauteed carrot, mushroom and green bean. Pat asked for a side of white rice to go with it.

Here's a big ol bunch of sushi that we ordered. Some of the greatest hits include a rock and roll and a crunch rock and roll. Not too good. It was over an inch wide and was just a mouthful of squishy, bland fish. Not my cup of tea. Spicy tuna, a favorite of mine, not very spicy. Octopus for Jeff.
Eel for Jeff - apparently Matsuya pickles their own eel. If you're into that sort of thing then Matsuya might be up your alley. I was always under the impression that the eel was barbecued. Maybe that's what they tell us sushi rubes.

I have no idea what these things are called but its a little salmon purse with rice and ikura on top. Ann about lost her tiny mind when she ate one of these. She makes her food noises which I bet are the same as her bedroom noises. But I wouldn't know.

Here's Ann's sushi dinner. She was pretty satisfied with the variety of sushi that she got on the platter. But like I said before, this place is right by her house and she's a regular.

We ended up getting several spider rolls, sea urchin, ikura rolls. My only real beef with this place is that they don't use enough nori to make these rolls stand up. Every single one fell apart as soon as I picked it up. Just uncalled for in general for a sushi restaurant. They should withstand picking up and dipping in soy and making it to your mouth.

Our server was pretty terrible. She could NOT figure out how to divide the checks. I finally came up with the idea to give us the order sheets and we would fill out what we got. It took her forever to get it done and they were still incorrect. I am not itching to come back here because its at the last possible exit in Northern Kentucky. I can find better sushi near my house.
