It was St. Patrick's day and there was no WAY I would be able to eat near Fountain Square. I chose to go up the block to Lavomatic. I haven't been here in a few years because I swore to myself to not go back to another establishment owned by Martin Wade. Well maybe not never. I won't get on a Martin Wade soapbox I swear.
My friend Stuart works at Lavomatic as a bartender. He makes a mean cocktail. Here's one he made me, such a sweetheart. It was a bourbon cocktail with orange. I know he told me the name - I just can't remember what it was called.

Delicious crusty foccacia bread with butter comes first.

Here's a look at just half of their rather extensive bar. They have a little bit of everything including craft liqueurs to make all those fancy pants drinks most people have never heard of.

I got the goat cheese dumpling. I've said it before, I'll say it again. I love goat cheese, I'd eat it every day if possible. These were 2 little deep fried pillows of goat cheese with a pistachio wasabi coulis and white cocoa and black truffle sauce. I could have eaten a plate of just these as an entree. So good.

Next was the butter poached rock shrimp salad with mixed greens and cucumber relish. Also very delicious. There were a lot of those little butter poached shrimp on this salad, very filling and tasty. Great flavors.

Lastly I had the NY Strip with garlic roasted fingerling potatoes and root vegetables and orange demiglaze. I can't say I found the orange flavor but the jus that was there was just delicious. The vegetables were cooked perfectly and the steak was just great. Perfect size for this menu.

In the end I went to a restaurant that I liked but dislike the owner. I can make my peace with that for good food and the company of a friend. That's more important anyways.
