True Food Kitchen

Although I am not a native to SoCal I had heard some buzz about True Food during my weeks stay. I got back to Fashion Island in enough time on one day and wanted to try it. I loved the interior. Exposed ventilation, exotic hardwoods and thoughtful details like a kitchen towel as your napkin.

My server Dedra was really sweet and attentive. My favorite part about True Food is their wine menu. They have it separated into price levels. You can choose $5, $6 or $7 pours. Genius!

Here's a look at the inside with the soft ligthing, and open atmosphere.

Caramelized onion and fig tart. This thing was pretty big, over a foot long and big enough to share. The onion and fig on this were really tasty. I'm not ashamed that I ate the whole thing - believe it!

Oh this was just what I needed. Miso glazed black cod with mushrooms and bok choy. This was so delicious. The miso glaze was really seared sweetly onto the fish making a sweet, smoky, crunchy exterior. I asked my server for extra mushrooms and she hooked me up. It all just worked. Just 4 flavors and they just made my day.

With my appetizer, entree and 2 glasses of wine it was about $50 for my meal - totally reasonable. You can opt out of the wine or split appetizers for more budget conscious. The casual environment and delicious food make this a great place for a date or special occasion, the price makes it great for just every Wednesday.
